Collision Protection Solution for Shuttle Vehicles in Logistics Centers

Challenge

In the efficient operation of modern logistics centers, shuttle vehicles play a crucial role. However, during their operation, shuttle vehicles face the risk of collisions, which may lead to damage to goods, equipment failure, and disruption of the overall logistics process.

Solution

To address this issue, we propose a collision protection solution for shuttle vehicles based on phase measurement laser distance sensors. This solution utilizes a laser distance sensor integrated at the front of the shuttle vehicle. The sensor is capable of detecting the position of objects within a 50-meter range. By continuously monitoring the distance between the shuttle vehicle and nearby objects, the vehicle can adjust its speed or stop based on preset logic, effectively preventing collisions.

Principle of the Phase Measurement Laser Distance Sensor

Working Principle:

The phase measurement laser distance sensor emits a modulated laser beam and calculates the distance to the target object by measuring the phase shift of the reflected signal. This method provides high accuracy and is unaffected by ambient light, making it suitable for dynamic environments. The sensor’s high-frequency sampling capability allows for real-time collision detection.

Collision Protection Logic and Process

1️⃣ Real-Time Monitoring and Data Transmission
The phase measurement laser distance sensor continuously collects distance data from surrounding objects at a high frequency. This data is transmitted in real-time to the shuttle vehicle's control system to ensure constant environmental awareness.

2️⃣ Warning System Activation
When the sensor detects that the distance to a target object is less than a preset warning distance (e.g., 10 meters), the control system triggers a warning signal. The warning can be communicated through sound, light, or both, alerting operators and nearby personnel to the potential collision risk.

3️⃣ Deceleration Process
If the shuttle vehicle continues to approach the target object and the distance decreases to the preset deceleration distance (e.g., 5 meters), the control system automatically initiates the deceleration process, gradually reducing the vehicle’s speed to maintain a safe distance.

4️⃣ Emergency Stop
If the distance continues to decrease to the preset safety stop distance (e.g., 1 meter), the control system immediately sends a stop command, ensuring the shuttle vehicle comes to a complete halt before any collision occurs.
